Battledown Brewery have been making beautiful ales in the heart of the Cotswolds for over 20 years, but were struggling to compete in the increasingly crowded market place with the exponential growth of the craft market.
With a proud and longstanding heritage, the family wanted to have their story told, and heard.

Branding
Using traditional wood cut illustrations the branding reflects the growth and care of the locally sourced ingredients that make the ales. Inspired by Saxon art, the branding juxtaposes modern typography with wood cut illustrations to help retain its sense of tradition whilst giving a competitive edge in the bustle of a bulging craft ale market.
Individual illustrations were sketched then cut into wood and lino block to create an authentic base for the development of the packaging. From this the illustrations were digitised and built in the pack format, retaining the character and nuances of the original drawings and pressings.
The history of Battledown goes back long before the brewery was founded, starting with one man, Saxon alchemist and farmer Baedala who nurtured the land upon which the brewery now stands.
These values and traditions that formed the settlement remain true in the brewery today.
The illustrations and texture nod to the raw, traditional equipment for which the beer is made.
